This week's matchup between the Eastwood Eagles and the Oak Harbor Rockets should be one of the more competitive of the second round, the Eagles entering the week projected to win by a score of 28-24. It's do or die for each team as always in the postseason. Regardless of the outcome, each team can take comfort in the fact that they had a successful enough season to get here, but only one team will be satisfied with the result as the other's season will end on a loss. The Eagles, one of the top teams in Division 5, come into the game ranked 3rd. The Rockets come in ranked 5th. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Sunday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Stylistically and schematically, past matchups are often used as a guiding tool. This week, however, each team will likely take time to adjust to an unfamiliar opponent, which should make for some added excitement.
Eastwood comes into the game on a 11-game winning streak. After last week's 28-17 win against the Liberty-Benton Eagles, they are 11-0 and look to continue the positive momentum. In recent weeks, the Eagles haven't been quite as successful producing points but they remain the 14th-ranked offense in Division 5, scoring an average of 38.5 points per game. While recent games have affected averages negatively, their defense is one of the best as well. They rank 8th in their division, giving up an average of 12.7 points per game.
For Oak Harbor, Sunday is a chance to expand on a 11-game winning streak after their 41-7 win against the Beachwood Bisons brought their record to 11-0. Thus far, the Rockets offense has averaged 45.5 points per game offensively, which ranks 10th in the state. In recent weeks, they've been even more powerful, scoring an average of 49 points per game over the last 3 weeks. On defense, their last few weeks haven't even done justice to how good they've been all season. They've given up 17.67 points per game over their last 3, down from their average of 10.7, which ranks 4th in their division on the season.
