This week's matchup between the Hoban Knights and the Mayfield Wildcats should be one of the more competitive of the second round, the Knights entering the week projected to win by a score of 31-25. The playoffs are the best time of the year but also come with a great deal of drama as many powerhouses will even see their seasons cut short. Each week, it's do or die and, after this week is complete, half of the current playoff teams will be eliminated. The Knights rank 1st in the division while the Wildcats rank 12th. A rematch from their game last season, this matchup will be a good gauge on how each team has improved or regressed. Last season, the Knights beat the Wildcats 49-0.
Hoban is currently on a 8-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Saturday. Coming off of a 69-6 win against the Alliance Aviators, they are 10-1 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. Thus far, the Knights offense has put up an average of 45 points per game, which ranks 14th in the state. In recent weeks, they've been even more powerful, scoring an average of 53.5 points per game over the last 2 weeks. While their offense is solid, the defense deserves equal credit for the season's successes. Their 11.7 points allowed per game ranks 8th in the division and continues to get better week by week - in their last 7 games, they've given up just 8.86 points per game.
For Mayfield, Saturday is a chance to expand on a 11-game winning streak after their 47-21 win against the South Rebels brought their record to 11-0. The Wildcats offense is the 16th-ranked offense in Division 2, scoring an average of 35.2 points per game over the course of the season. In their last 4 games, however, they haven't been quite as explosive as they've averaged 31.5 points per game. On defense, their last few weeks haven't even done justice to how good they've been all season. They've given up 21 points per game over their last 2, down from their average of 13.3, which ranks 11th in their division on the season.
