In the playoffs, anything can happen. At least that's what the Indian Creek Redskins are hoping as they come into Sunday as 29-point underdogs against the Poland Seminary Bulldogs. The playoffs are the best time of the year but also come with a great deal of drama as many powerhouses will even see their seasons cut short. Each week, it's do or die and, after this week is complete, half of the current playoff teams will be eliminated. The Redskins, one of the top teams in Division 4, come into the game ranked 19th. The Bulldogs come in ranked 8th. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Sunday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.
Indian Creek is currently on a 8-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Sunday. Coming off of a 35-29 win against the Hubbard Eagles, they are 10-1 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. The Redskins offense will look to continue to improve as they've scored an average of 39 points per game over their last 2 games, up from their season average of 31.1, which ranks 29th in Division 4. The defense hasn't been much better statistically, giving up an average of 9.3 points per game, which ranks 2nd in their division.
For Poland Seminary, Sunday is a chance to expand on a 8-game winning streak after their 31-0 win against the Struthers Wildcats brought their record to 9-2. The Bulldogs offense hasn't been particularly great this season in terms of point production, a trend which continues into recent weeks. Over their last 2 games, they've scored an average of 22.5 points - this season they've averaged 31.5, which ranks 27th in Division 4. On defense, they're not much better statistically. They rank 4th in their division, allowing 10.2 points per game. However, they have improved as the season's gone on, giving up an average of 5.4 points over their last 5.
