In the first matchup of the 2019 playoffs, the Shelby will play at home against the Edison Chargers in what looks to be one of the most competitive matchups of the season. The Whippets come into the game as 1-point favorites, projected to come away with the victory by a score of 28-27. The playoffs are an interesting time of year as 7 teams fulfill their most ambitious goal in winning a state championship while the other 217 playoff teams will end their season with a loss. This matchup is no different as the winner will continue their playoff run while the loser will end its 2019 season with a loss. The Chargers, one of the top teams in Division 4, come into the game ranked 39th. The Whippets come in ranked 22nd. Having matched up in 2018, there is a degree of familiarity between the two. Last season, the Whippets beat the Chargers 33-7.

Edison comes into the game on a 2-game winning streak. After last week's 41-20 win against the Huron Tigers, they are 7-3 and look to continue the positive momentum. The Chargers offense has been one of the best in the division, especially in recent weeks. For the year, they rank 24th in Division 4 with 32.1 points per game. Over the last 2 weeks, they've scored an average of 32.1. Their defense ranks 48th in their division allowing an average of 21.9 points per game, but they have shown improvement in recent weeks - in their last 2 games, they've given up an average of 10 points.

Shelby will look to continue the momentum of their 2-game winning streak, the most recent addition to which was a 35-25 win against the Clear Fork Colts last week, bringing their record to 7-3. The Whippets rank 11th in Division 4 on offense, scoring an average of 35.6. However, over the last 2 weeks, their average is down to 26 points per game. Their defense gives up an average of 20.2 points per game, ranking 39th in their division.

Prediction: Shelby to win (88.41% chance of victory)
