Week 7 brings about a big game for both the Springfield Wildcats and the Springboro Panthers as it could ultimately decide the postseason fate of either one. The Panthers can currently expect to finish the season 1st at 10-0. For the Wildcats, postseason chances aren't quite as high as they are projected to finish 10th in Region 2. The Panthers are the favorites on Friday, projected to win the game by a score of 34-21. Springboro, the 42nd-ranked team in the state, host a fellow top-100 team this week as Springfield comes into the game ranked 50th. The Wildcats come into the game with little regard for pregame statistical breakdowns - while the Panthers believe they are the superior team, the road team will not consider it an upset if they come away with the victory. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Friday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.
Springfield is currently on a 4-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Friday. Coming off of a 61-0 win against the Beavercreek Beavers, they are 5-1 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. A top team in the division on both sides of the ball, they score an average of 36.8 points per game on offense, which ranks 10th in Division 1, and allow an average of 9 points per game, ranking 2nd in the division.
Springboro is no stranger to winning recently as they come off of a 6-game winning streak, including last week's 27-21 win against the Northmont Thunderbolts. That brings their record to 6-0 as they look to add another notch to the win column. The Panthers rank top 25 for Division 1 in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The offense ranks 7th with an average of 38.3 points per game while their defense ranks 6th, giving up 11.5 points per game.
Prediction: Springboro to win (80.51% chance of victory)
