One of the most highly anticipated matchups of the first round comes between the Genoa Area Comets and the Lake Flyers, the Comets projected to win by a score of 26-20. The playoffs are an interesting time of year as 7 teams fulfill their most ambitious goal in winning a state championship while the other 217 playoff teams will end their season with a loss. This matchup is no different as the winner will continue their playoff run while the loser will end its 2018 season with a loss. The Flyers rank 20th in the division while the Comets rank 4th. This is a chance for the Flyers to avenge a loss from earlier on in the regular season, when the Comets beat them 34-27. Last season, they played as well, the Comets beating the Flyers 29-7.

Lake is currently on a 2-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Saturday. Coming off of a 31-0 win against the Eastwood Eagles, they are 7-3 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. While the Flyers offense has not been particularly great, ranked 40th in Division 5 with 28.6 points per game, they have improved in recent weeks, averaging 36.5 points over their last 2 contests. Their defense hasn't been much better throughout the course of the season, ranking 15th with an average of 14.5 points allowed per game. In recent weeks, they have improved, giving up an average of 3.5 points over their last 2 games.

For Genoa Area, Saturday is a chance to expand on a 10-game winning streak after their 34-8 win against the Fostoria Redmen brought their record to 10-0. The Comets rank 13th in Division 5 on offense, scoring an average of 36.7. However, over the last 2 weeks, their average is down to 27.5 points per game. Nevertheless, the defense could actually be the true strength of the team, which they've shown in their most recent contests. Over the last 3 games, they've allowed only 7.33 points per game. However, success on defense isn't just a recent trend - on the season, their defense ranks 11th in their division, allowing 11.7 points per game.

Prediction: Genoa Area to win (98.19% chance of victory)
