The St. Ignatius Wildcats head into Friday as slight underdogs, the Hoban Knights expected to take home the victory by a score of 27-23. One of the more competitive matchups of the week on paper, it should be a treat for fans as they watch the Wildcats and the Knights battle it out on the field. Friday's matchup features two of the state's best as St. Ignatius comes into the game ranked 22nd in the state and Hoban comes in ranked 1st. This looks to be a close and exciting game, which will be fun at least for the team that comes out on top. A rematch from their game last season, this matchup will be a good gauge on how each team has improved or regressed. Last year, the Knights got the better of the Wildcats, winning by a score of 21-14.
After a playoff appearance in 2018, St. Ignatius's playoff chances aren't looking quite as good as they did towards the end of last season. Coming into the week with a 1-1 record, they are projected to finish the year 11th in the region with a record of 6-4. Thus far, they haven't been particularly strong in terms of scoring on either side of the ball. Their offense ranks 26th in Division 1, scoring an average of 29 points per game. On defense, giving up 24 points per game, they rank 46th in the division.
Hoban fulfilled their primary goal last season with a Division 2 state championship. This year is a fight for yet another. After a 49-0 win against the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals last week, they come into the game 2-0 and are projected to finish 2nd in the regional playoff standings. The Knights rank top 25 for Division 2 in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The offense ranks 3rd with an average of 45.5 points per game while their defense ranks 6th, giving up 6 points per game.
Prediction: Hoban to win (99.60% chance of victory)
