Friday's matchup between the Edison Chargers and the Vermilion Sailors takes place between two teams that most likely will not make the playoffs. The Chargers come into the week projected to finish 15th in the Region 14 playoff standings. The Sailors are projected to finish 27th in Region 14. Edison comes in as a 27-point favorite as each team fights to close out the regular season strong. For Vermilion, the inferior team on paper, this is a chance to ride the home crowd and prove themselves capable against a solid opponent. However, for Edison, the expectation is a decisive road victory. A rematch from their game last season, this matchup will be a good gauge on how each team has improved or regressed. In 2018, the Sailors defeated the Chargers by a score of 36-35.

Last week, Edison dropped a game 33-14 against the Oak Harbor Rockets. They'll look to get in the win column this week as they hope to finish out the season on a positive note. While the Chargers haven't been the most high-powered offense throughout the season, they have been improving week to week. In the last 2 weeks, they've averaged 38, up from their season average of 29.9, which ranks 33rd in Division 4. They aren't a top defense in terms of points allowed either, but they have given up less points in recent weeks. While they rank 59th in their division on the season with 24.9 points allowed per game, they've given up an improved average of 17.25 points over their last 4 games.

Vermilion comes into Friday looking to put a halt to their 8-game losing streak and build some momentum moving forward. Last week's loss came at the hands of the Huron Tigers, who beat the Sailors by a score of 34-0. Particularly in recent weeks, the Sailors offense has struggled to put points on the board. In their last 2 games, they've put up an average of 0 points per game. Throughout the course of the season, they've averaged 4.4, which ranks 106th in Division 4. Defensively, giving up 38.1 points per game, they rank 92nd in the division.

Prediction: Edison to win (99.77% chance of victory)
