A week 1 matchup between the Ayersville Pilots and the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers on Friday figures to be a successful matchup for the Pilots. Coming into the game as a 27-point favorite, Ayersville has a 88.85 chance of kicking off the season with a victory. For Waynesfield-Goshen, the inferior team on paper, this is a chance to ride the home crowd and prove themselves capable against a solid opponent. However, for Ayersville, the expectation is a decisive road victory. The teams did not appear on each other's schedules last season, which presents a degree of unpredictability. Stylistically and schematically, past matchups are often used as a guiding tool. This week, however, each team will likely take time to adjust to an unfamiliar opponent, which should make for some added excitement.

After finishing 2-8 last season, Ayersville believes 2019 is their year. They come into the season projected to finish 8th in the regional playoff standings with a 6-4 record. In 2019, they'll be looking to improve on both sides of the ball. Last season, the Pilots offense ranked 92nd in Division 7 scoring an average of 11 points per game while their defense, allowing 29.3 points per game, ranked 29.3.

Waynesfield-Goshen comes into the week without much of a chance of making the postseason. However, it is early and only time can tell. They are projected to finish the season with a 3-7 and hope to make Friday the first step toward exceeding that projection. Last year wasn't a particularly strong year on either side of the ball for them - scoring an average of 16.6 points per game on offense, they ranked 26th in their division, and gave up 19.4 points per game, ranking 26th on defense.

Prediction: Ayersville to win (88.85% chance of victory)
