This week's matchup between the Wayne Warriors and the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats should be one of the more competitive of the first round, the Warriors entering the week projected to win by a score of 24-17. The playoffs are the best time of the year but also come with a great deal of drama as many powerhouses will even see their seasons cut short. Each week, it's do or die and, after this week is complete, half of the current playoff teams will be eliminated. Wayne comes in as Division 1's 8th-ranked team. Hilliard Davidson comes in ranked 11th. A new game on the schedule for both teams, it should shape out as an unpredictable affair. Strategically, this might lead to complications that could throw off the gameplan of either team.
Wayne hopes to build off of last week's 41-35 win against the Trotwood-Madison Rams and finish the season strong. The Warriors offense is the 4th-ranked offense in Division 1, scoring an average of 38.8 points per game over the course of the season. In their last 2 games, however, they've cooled off, averaging 33.5 points per game. Their defense gives up an average of 27.3 points per game, ranking 60th in their division.
Hilliard Davidson is no stranger to winning recently as they come off of a 5-game winning streak, including last week's 49-13 win against the Westland Cougars. That brings their record to 9-1 as they look to add another notch to the win column. While the Wildcats offense has not been particularly great, ranked 35th in Division 1 with 24.7 points per game, they have improved in recent weeks, averaging 38.5 points over their last 2 contests. The defense hasn't been much better statistically, giving up an average of 8.2 points per game, which ranks 2nd in their division.
Prediction: Wayne to win (57.49% chance of victory)
