In the opening round of the playoffs, the Perry Pirates come in with an edge over the CVCA Royals on paper, projected to win by a score of 48-21. The playoffs are an interesting time of year as 7 teams fulfill their most ambitious goal in winning a state championship while the other 217 playoff teams will end their season with a loss. This matchup is no different as the winner will continue their playoff run while the loser will end its 2018 season with a loss. CVCA comes in as Division 4's 37th-ranked team. Perry comes in ranked 4th. A new game on the schedule for both teams, it should shape out as an unpredictable affair. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.

CVCA is currently on a 3-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Saturday. Coming off of a 42-19 win against the Manchester Panthers, they are 7-3 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. The Royals offense has been one of the best in the division, especially in recent weeks. For the year, they rank 22nd in Division 4 with 34.3 points per game. Over the last 3 weeks, they've scored an average of 34.3. Their defense ranks 28th in their division allowing an average of 18 points per game, but they have shown improvement in recent weeks - in their last 2 games, they've given up an average of 9.5 points.

For Perry, Saturday is a chance to expand on a 8-game winning streak after their 41-0 win against the Harvey Red Raiders brought their record to 9-1. The Pirates are undeniably one of Division 4's best offenses, averaging 40.4 points per game, which ranks 13th. In their last 6 games, they've been even better, scoring 45.67 points per game. On defense, they've been just as strong. Allowing just 16.6 points per game over the course of the season, their defense ranks 23rd in their division. Over the last 2 weeks, they've been even more proficient, giving up just 3 points per game.

Prediction: Perry to win (99.96% chance of victory)
