The St. Edward Eagles come into the state semifinals projected to get a victory over the Olentangy Liberty Patriots by a score of 28-12. However, anything can happen in the playoffs so you can throw mathematical predictions out the window. It's do or die for each team as always in the postseason. Regardless of the outcome, each team can take comfort in the fact that they had a successful enough season to get here, but only one team will be satisfied with the result as the other's season will end on a loss. The Eagles, one of the top teams in Division 1, come into the game ranked 4th. The Patriots come in ranked 10th. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Saturday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.

St. Edward is currently on a 3-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Saturday. Coming off of a 24-14 win against the Mentor Cardinals, they are 9-3 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. Scoring an average of 29.7 points per game on offense, the Eagles rank 16th in Division 1. They've been even more explosive in recent weeks, scoring an average of 40 over their last 2 games. Their defense gives up an average of 18.1 points per game, ranking 26th in their division.

Olentangy Liberty will look to continue the momentum of their 4-game winning streak, the most recent addition to which was a 21-7 win against the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks last week, bringing their record to 9-4. The Patriots offense hasn't been particularly great this season in terms of point production, a trend which continues into recent weeks. Over their last 3 games, they've scored an average of 15 points - this season they've averaged 19.5, which ranks 46th in Division 1. On defense, they're not much better statistically. They rank 6th in their division, allowing 12.5 points per game. However, they have improved as the season's gone on, giving up an average of 3.5 points over their last 2.

Prediction: St. Edward to win (69.05% chance of victory)
