The Mason Comets have a tough game on the schedule for week 3, heading into Friday as a 1-point favorite over the Lakota East Thunderhawks. Projected as one of the closest matchups of the week, it's definitely one to keep an eye on. Lakota East ranks 95th in the state, compared to Mason, who ranks 103rd in the state and 33rd in Division 1. With no definitive indication over who is truly the better team, each side will have to make its case on the field come Friday. The teams are no strangers to one another, playing against each other in each of the last five years. Over their last 5 matchups, the Thunderhawks have been superior, coming out on top in 3 of them. However, the past won't matter come kickoff. In 2018's matchup, the Thunderhawks came away with a 20-17 victory.

Lakota East comes off of a 14-6 win against the Fairmont Firebirds, which brought their record to 1-1. They are projected to finish the season 9th in the region with a record of 5-5 - they'll need to do better than that to secure a spot in the postseason. They could use some improvement on both sides of the ball - on offense, they rank 48th in Division 1 with 17.5 points per game; on defense, they give up 20.5 points per game, which ranks 35th.

Mason comes into the game 0-2 after their 31-0 loss against the La Salle Lancers last week. They are projected to finish the season 8th in the regional playoff standings, which puts them towards the top of the playoff bubble. The Comets have struggled thus far on each side of the ball. Scoring 3.5 points per game, they rank 68th in Division 1. Defensively, giving up 32.5 points per game, ranks 60th in the division.

Prediction: Mason to win (73.15% chance of victory)
