The Avon Eagles are looking to mount a deep playoff run, which they hope will end in a state championship, beginning with a game they're projected to win 42-20 over the Springfield Blue Devils. The playoffs are an interesting time of year as 7 teams fulfill their most ambitious goal in winning a state championship while the other 217 playoff teams will end their season with a loss. This matchup is no different as the winner will continue their playoff run while the loser will end its 2018 season with a loss. The Blue Devils, one of the top teams in Division 2, come into the game ranked 32nd. The Eagles come in ranked 3rd. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Friday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.

Springfield will look to rebound this week after their Anthony Wayne Generals in their last game. The Blue Devils rank 11th in Division 2 on offense, scoring an average of 38. However, over the last 3 weeks, their average is down to 33.67 points per game. Their defense ranks 46th in their division allowing an average of 22.8 points per game, but they have shown improvement in recent weeks - in their last 3 games, they've given up an average of 17.33 points.

For Avon, Friday is a chance to expand on a 7-game winning streak after their 77-47 win against the Berea-Midpark Titans brought their record to 9-1. The Eagles score an average of 47.5 points per game, which ranks 9th in the state offensively. In recent weeks, they've scored at an even more impressive rate, an average of 62 points over their last 2 games. On defense, they rank 33rd in their division, giving up an average of 19.2 points per game.

Prediction: Avon to win (99.95% chance of victory)
