In this year's regional finals for the Genoa Area Comets, they are projected to come away with a 31-23 win over the Liberty Center Tigers. However, it should be one of the more hotly contested matchups of the round and all statistical predictions could easily go out the window. The playoffs are the best time of the year but also come with a great deal of drama as many powerhouses will even see their seasons cut short. Each week, it's do or die and, after this week is complete, half of the current playoff teams will be eliminated. Liberty Center comes in as Division 5's 8th-ranked team. Genoa Area comes in ranked 4th. A new matchup on the schedule for each team, Sunday's game is a chance for each to test its skills and strategies against an unfamiliar opponent. Usually, matchups from the previous year are used in developing a strategy for upcoming games. For these two, no such opportunity will be afforded.

Liberty Center is currently on a 2-game winning streak, which they hope to continue on Sunday. Coming off of a 14-0 win against the Oak Harbor Rockets, they are 11-1 and their confidence continues to build as they finish up the year. The Tigers have struggled on offense, scoring only 19 points per game over their last 2 games. On the year, they rank 28th in Division 5, scoring an average of 31.8 points per game over the course of the season. On defense, they haven't been any better statistically, ranking 6th in their division, allowing 11.1 points per game.

For Genoa Area, Sunday is a chance to expand on a 12-game winning streak after their 42-41 win against the Elyria Catholic Panthers brought their record to 12-0. The Comets are undeniably one of Division 5's best offenses, averaging 38 points per game, which ranks 11th. In their last 2 games, they've been even better, scoring 44.5 points per game. While their defense has given up more points than usual in recent weeks, they deserve every bit as much of the credit for this season's successes as the offense. Over the course of the season, they've given up an average of 14.9 points per game, which ranks 13th in their division.

Prediction: Genoa Area to win (94.80% chance of victory)
