Week 9 is a chance for the Rootstown Rovers to expand their already-solid playoff chances. They come into Friday projected to finish 4th in Region 17. They host the Valley Christian Eagles, currently projected to finish 25th in Region 25. Rootstown has the edge on paper, entering the game as a 10-point favorite. However, the battle for a postseason bid can only be decided on the field. The Eagles come into the game with little regard for pregame statistical breakdowns - while the Rovers believe they are the superior team, the road team will not consider it an upset if they come away with the victory. Having matched up in 2018, there is a degree of familiarity between the two. Last season, the Rovers beat the Eagles 30-16.

Valley Christian has dropped each of their most recent 3 games and will look to reverse the negative momentum on Friday. They are currently 2-6 and come off of a 48-12 loss against the Southeast Pirates. Particularly in recent weeks, the Eagles offense has struggled to put points on the board. In their last 3 games, they've put up an average of 8.67 points per game. Throughout the course of the season, they've averaged 11.5, which ranks 95th in Division 7. On defense, they rank 77th in the division, giving up 32.5 points per game.

Rootstown tallied up a 20-18 win against the Crestwood Red Devils last week, bringing their record to 6-2 - they'll look to add to the win column once again on Friday. The Rovers have struggled on offense, scoring only 17 points per game over their last 3 games. On the year, they rank 34th in Division 5, scoring an average of 31.1 points per game over the course of the season. Defensively, giving up 21.6 points per game, they rank 43rd in the division.

Prediction: Rootstown to win (99.76% chance of victory)
